Instructors

MPWW employs over 20 core instructors, each of whom is an accomplished local writer and teacher. We may be biased, but we think our instructors are among the best in the country. Not only are they award-winning writers in their own rite, they teach innovative and rigorous classes, travel to facilities across the state, navigate the shifting demands of different carceral systems, and bolster the organization outside the classroom. They are think partners, emcees, facility coordinators, journal editors, moral supporters, submission gurus, board members, event planners, and activists. Their long-term commitment to arts education and to MPWW’s students is what allows this program to endure and thrive. We’re so grateful to all of these folks who’ve stepped up and into classrooms as guest instructors or core faculty (roughly in the order they joined the group):

Kelly Hansen Maher, Nico Taranovsky, Dain Edwards, Peter Pearson, Wendy Brown Baez, Nell Ubbelohde, Bill Breen, Deborah Appleman, Scott Carpenter, Elizabeth Tannen, Mary Stein, Mike Alberti, Michael Kleber-Diggs, Matt Rasmussen, Amy Fladeboe, Erin Sharkey, Kristin Naca, Matt Burgess, Rachel Moritz, Su Hwang, April Gibson, Michael Torres, Junauda Petrus-Nasah, Katie Robinson, Antonio Duke, David Lawrence Grant, Heidi Czerwiec, Alida Winternheimer, Chavonn Williams Shen, Sam Stokely, Claire Schwartz, Abbey Mei Otis, Adam Levy, Chaun Webster, Sun Yung Shin, Jeannine Oulette, Emily Oliver, Vincent Cheng, Alice Paige.
